RUMA NATIONAL PARK
Ruma National park is situated 140 kilometers from Kisumu town and it is lies on 120 sq. kilometers. It was first gazetted in 1966 as Lambwe valley game reserve and acquired national park status in 1983. The park was established mainly to protect the Roan antelope which does not occur anywhere else in the country.

The soils are largely black cotton clay. The surrounding area is settled, with a mix of small scale cultivation and grassy pastureland. And its climate is Hot and Humid. Mean annual rainfall is 1200-1600mm.
Its main attractions are game viewing, bird watching, hiking, walking, boating and fishing in the rivers.
Game to view includes: Bohor's Reedbuck, rare Rothschild's Giraffes, Jackson's Hartebeest, Roan Antelope, buffalo,lions, hyenas, cheetahs, leopards, serval cats, tiny oribi antelopes and hartebeest.
