TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK

Tsavo east national park was opened in 1948. It covers an area of 11,747 Sq kms and it is 333 Kms from Nairobi. It is one of Kenya's oldest and largest National Parks and it covers approximately 40% of the total area of all of Kenya's National Parks. It is a great safari Destination and this is because of its beautiful landscape and proximity to the coast.

Tsavo-East has fabulous light and fantastic views, e.g. the Mudanda Rock and the Yatta Plateau, the world's largest lava flow. Lugard Falls on the Galana River are remarkable for the shaped water-worn rocks. It is known as one of the World's leading bio-diversity strongholds, bushy grassland and open plains alternating with savannah and semi-arid acacia scrub and woodlands. Green swathes cross the Park where the river banks give rise to lush vegetation. North of Galana is a true wilderness. A number of leading tour guides offer private safaris throughout this area, camel safaris are also available. 

Game in the park includes; lions, leopard, cheetah, zebras, giraffes, serval, crocodile, antelopes, kongoni, lesser kudu, klipspringer, impala, stripped hyena, ostriches, gazelles, buffalos, Zebras, elephants and many more.

There are about 500 bird species have been recorded. The birds are mostly seen between late October and early January, and they come from as far as Eastern and Western Europe. Commonly seen birds are African skimmers, goshawks, red and yellow bishops, palm nut vultures and the white-headed buffalo weavers.

Tsavo National park has one lodge with 104 beds, four tented camps (total 92 beds), two campsites (total 36 beds), one self-help banda site with 12 beds and nine campsites. More lodges to the Galana.
